MJ Coalition condemns Church of Scotland report

church-of-scotland-logo1Today five different Messianic Jewish organizations representing the bulk of Messianic Jews around world released a statement  condemning the recently affirmed report on “The inheritance of Abraham” by the Church of Scotland.

Throughout the month of May the Church of Scotland (COS) has been involved in an international firestorm of controversy because of what has been widely perceived as an anti-Israel and anti-Semitic report, which was recently overwhelmingly accepted by the General Assembly. This was the revised version, after the initial report was blasted by various Jewish and Christian groups, but remains very problematic, and even supportive of historic anti-Semitic attitudes within the church.

You can read the full statement HERE on the UMJC website.

The statement was signed by leaders of the International Messianic Jewish Alliance (IMJA), the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations (UMJC), the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America (MJAA), the International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues (IAMCS) and the British Messianic Jewish Alliance (BMJA).

About Rabbi Joshua

I'm a Rabbi, writer, thinker, mountain biker, father and husband ... not necessarily in that order. According to my wife, however, I'm just a big nerd. I have degrees in dead languages and ancient stuff. I have studied in various Jewish institutions, including an Orthodox yeshiva in Europe. I get in trouble for making friends with perfect strangers, and for standing on chairs to sing during Shabbos dinner. In addition to being the Senior Rabbi of Beth Emunah Messianic Synagogue in Agoura Hills, CA, I write regularly for several publications and speak widely in congregations and conferences. My wife is a Southern-fried Jewish Beltway bandit and a smokin' hot human rights attorney... and please don’t take offense if I dump Tabasco sauce on your cooking.

  1. Martin Horan says:

The Church of Scotland does not represent the people of Scotland. It doesn’t even represent Scottish Protestestants. It has nothing in common with the Protestantism of Knox or any of our Scottish martyrs. In fact, it now has more in common with the Catholic church which slaughtered both Christians and Jews.
It is preterist, as prophesied in 2 Peter 3:4, and it’s exactly what they believe. They endorse PRACTISING homosexuals in their ministry and refuse to condemn the murderous and vile behaviour or Arab (so-called Palestinian) terrorists against unarmed Israeli citizens. They are about as Christian as I am a Martian.
As a Scotsman they make me ashamed. As a Christian they make me disgusted.
Genesis 12:23 & 27:29 make it clear that God curses those who curse the Jewish people (we only have to look at the present day Moslem world to see that still stands) and the apostle Paul shows us in the Book of Romans, chapter 11, that it still stands.
But when men are going to reject God’s word and are willing to ordain perverts, we can only expect them to reject the Word of God in every other way.
