Gematria. Numerical patterns in the Bible. It’s a rabbinic technique and it may be mentioned as early as the Mishnah (see Pirkei Avot 3:18). Regardless of whether the term was used in the Second Temple period, the technique was. Numerical patterning as a literary technique is at least as early as Genesis in the Hebrew Bible (see Umberto Cassuto’s commentary on Genesis for numerous examples).

Triangular numbers. They are numbers formed from the sum of a sequence from 1 up to their own value. You know, like 28 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7. They show up in the Gospel of John in some interesting ways, even in the fishing nets of the apostles.
